About the local real estate market
- The Philippine real estate industry is showing signs of resiliency, especially in the residential property sector. The factors contributing to this subdued but still pervasive demand for housing are attributed to the continuous outflow of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), a steady stream of OFW remittances and a huge backlog in housing, among others. Demand for housing is still there but tempered by the effects of the recent global downturn. Buyers are expected to be more cautious and selective.
Local regulation
- Foreign nationals are not allowed to own land except when inherited via intestate succession (absence of a will). Foreign nationals may purchase and own condominium units; however, not more than 40 per cent of a condominium corporation can be owned by foreign nationals.
