Investment basics

What types of financial products can I invest my money in?

You can choose from a range of different financial products: 

Investment products usually offer potentially higher returns than deposit but with a greater risk.

How can I set up an investment account?

Please speak with your Relationship Manager about setting up an Investment Account. You must maintain a Premier account with HSBC before you can open an investment account with HSBC.

Is there any fee to be charged?

HSBC Investment account opening comes for free. However, depending on the nature of investment that will be placed, there may be third party related account opening fees. Transactional fees may also apply when you buy or sell investments. Please consult our Premier staff for further details.

Bonds

What types of bond are available through HSBC?

HSBC offers you a range of Government Bonds and Corporate Bonds in major currencies and tenors ranging from less than 1 year up to 25 years. Investment amount can be as low as PHP1,000,000. 

Bonds from HSBC can be categorised by:

  • Types of issuers: Government Bonds, Corporate Bonds, Offshore –registered bonds available to Qualified Individual Buyers only
  • Coupon: fixed rate bonds and zero-coupon bonds
  • Credit quality: Investment Grade and High Yield Bonds
  • Currencies: PHP, USD, AUD, EUR

Do I need a large sum of money to invest in bonds?

HSBC lets you invest in a wide range of bonds with a minimum investment amount of PHP1,000,000*.

Do I have to hold bonds until maturity?

If you will need to redeem your investment, HSBC will facilitate the request to sell the bond at market price. However, it is important to be aware that your selling price may differ from the original buying price due to changes in market condition. You could lose part or all of your investment if you choose to sell the bonds prior to maturity, subject to an available buyer in the market.

How can I collect my interest payments?

Once received from the issuer, all interest you earn will be credited to your designated settlement account with us.

What are the service charges for trading bonds?

Will the bank provide me with regular statemens of my Bond investment?

Yes, HSBC will provide a Confirmation of Purchase or Sale for each transaction.

Foreign exchange

Who can transact in FX?

HSBC Premier and Advance customers may transact in FX, subject to standard requirements.

What platforms are available for me to deal in FX?

The following major service platforms are available for HSBC customers to conduct FX transactions:

  • 24-hour online foreign exchange service through HSBC's Personal online banking and Personal Telephone Banking. These service channels do not support Peso to Foreign Currency conversion.

What are the various FX services that the Bank offers?

HSBC offers foreign exchange services to customers which include: 

  • 24-Hour Foreign Exchange Service through our Personal online banking and Personal Telephone Banking. These service channels do not support Peso to Foreign Currency conversion.
  • Pre-order Foreign Currency Service

What currencies are available in HSBC Philippines?

HSBC Philippines accepts 12 currencies: Philippine Peso, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Swiss Franc, Euro, British Pound, Hong Kong Dollar, Japanese Yen, New Zealand Dollar, Renminbi, Singapore Dollar, and US Dollar.
